I grew up in Waukesha, Wisconsin with two awesome brothers and two incredibly supportive parents.  We were always a very active family, but I did not get into cross-country skiing until my freshman year in high school.  The Waukesha West ski team was brand new at the time, but quickly developed into an excellent program with the help of numerous volunteers and an invaluable head coach, Mary Eloranta.  This team has now become Peak Nordic and is helping to develop skiers from kindergarten up.
The past six years of my life have been spent at Northern Michigan University, working towards the NCAA collegiate championships.  While there, I completed my undergraduate degree in Biology/Physiology with a Chemistry minor in 2007.  After graduation, I still had a full year of NCAA eligibility remaining due to a bad case of Mononucleosis in November of 2005 that took me out for the 2005/2006 ski season.  Since Sten Fjeldheim and Jenny Ryan are the best coaching duo in the country, and coming to NMU was the best decision I ever made in my life, the obvious answer for me was to enroll in graduate school and stay at Northern as long as the NCAA would allow.  Currently, I am three elective credits and one thesis away from a master’s degree in Exercise Science.  I have also been teaching chemistry labs as an adjunct faculty member at the university.
Sten has always preached to us that there is only one window of opportunity in a person’s life when he/she can take training seriously and try and be the best at his/her sport.  That window for me is now.   Next year I will continue to live in Marquette, MI and I will be racing for the CXC Team Vertical Limit.  CXC has created many opportunities for athlete development in our sport and I am very thankful for all their hard work.  They have had great success in the past and I am very excited to be a part of their promising future.
