After James and Kelly’s wedding, I had a pretty bad ankle role and couldn’t train for a couple days. We spent some time in Boulder where our good friends Shane Mundt and Tami Kochen took excellent care of us. Shane made us tons of good food. There was lots of fishing and shooting guns. We played horseshoes, had campfires, and enjoyed the fresh mountain air.

We also saw the new GI-Joe movie and met the newlyweds in Breckenridge where we stayed at the Ahern’s house. Tami, Bryan, James, Kelly, Kyle and Kevin Ahern did a 10K running race at 12,000 feet. We also met Kelly’s Brother and sister-in-law (Ryan and Annie) in Denver to watch the Rockies play the Cubs. Getting tickets was a little harder than we expected so the girls got into the game while the boys watched from a bar across the street. We felt pretty bad leaving them, but we got over it when we found out our tickets were just a few rows behind the Cubs dugout.

During the first week we did a bunch of trail running and hiking. Unfortunately, I put a damper on this when I sprained my ankle. A couple days after my ankle role, I was able to put on a ski boot and double pole. I had never roller skied out west before and the scenery was amazing. In Boulder, we went up the Left Hand Canyon where you need to ski up and drive down. Climbing for two hours is certainly not easy at that altitude. We also did an out and back near the Eldora downhill ski area, and used a gorgeous bike path in Breckenridge. I really enjoyed skiing with Tami again. We had a blast scheming about our futures and exploring Colorado.

James and Kelly Letson

Unfortunately, wedding season is over. I am back in Marquette after a wonderful vacation to Colorado. James and Kelly’s wedding was awesome. Everyone had a blast, and I was honored to be part of such a beautiful event. The Ahern and Letson families sure know how to throw a party. It was also great to see so many good college friends that have left Marquette. I was dancing so hard that I did not take any pictures. Here are a bunch of pictures courtesy of Mikey New. I will put up some more good ones when I get a hold of them.

Colorado Training Camp

Posted: Tuesday, August 4th, 2009

There was an unofficial CXC Team Vertical Limit training camp held in Crested Butte, CO over this past weekend.  The players were myself, Maria Stuber, and Gus Kaeding.  However, it was not just  a training camp, but it was also my best-friend’s wedding.  Our former NMU Ski Team teammates James Letson and Kelly Ahern were married at the amazing Lazy F Bar Ranch in Crested Butte.  This place was unreal, and the weather for the wedding was perfect.

If you have never been to Crested Butte you are really missing out.  The whole town was great for anything outdoor, as well as indoor, where we celebrated James’ bachelor party on Friday night.  We then hiked up Mount Crested Butte on Saturday until we cleared 10,000 feet.  The rehearsal dinner was on Saturday night, and then the wedding at 4 p.m. on Sunday.

Currently, Maria and I are still in Colorado for the rest of the week.  We are staying near Boulder with our good friend’s Tami Kochen and Shane Mundt of Mundt Arts.  We will be here training at altitude until Saturday when we will fly back to Milwaukee and go to Maria’s high school friend Nicole’s wedding.  Back-to-back wedding weekends are going to be pretty intense, but we are both really looking forward to it.  After that it is back to Marquette for some more working and training.
