Well, it has been great being back in snowy, Marquette. It has snowed for the past five days since we have been home. That has left us with at least four feet of snow! Skiing and unpacking from our month long trip has kept us pretty busy. We left in a bit of a hurry so we have been cleaning up the house lately. The skiing has been nice as well. The temperatures have been in the teens and hit 21 yesterday which felt really warm after the -21 we had in Anchorage. Training has been going well and we are looking forward to the next few weeks of Supertour racing in the Midwest! Stay tuned for results from the upcoming races.

Skiing in Marquette.

Posted: Sunday, January 18th, 2009Bryan and I are back in Marquette now and we will be following the Midwest SuperTour for the next few weeks. It will be nice to only travel on weekends for a change. I went for a long ski with the NMU girls today and it was gorgeous. We got about 6 inches of light fluffy snow last night and it was perfect making your own tracks.

Congratulations to everyone who competed for the USA at the World Cup this weekend. For more information about Friday’s classic sprint click HERE (women) or HERE (men). Congratulations especially to Morgan Smyth for placing 25th and getting World Cup points for our country in her first World Cup race ever! Information on Saturday’s pursuit race can be found HERE (men) or HERE (women). The Team sprints are going on today.
Congratulations also to Tami Kochen, who jumped into the Owl Creek Chase SuperTour in Aspen, CO, and placed 8th after starting in the back row and maneuvering around people the whole way. Owl Creek Chase results can be found HERE.
AK Classic Sprint Photos
Posted: Sunday, January 18th, 2009I took my camera out for the Classic Sprint heats in Alaska, but it got so dark and so cold that I did not use it much. A couple of the shots I took turned out okay. Enjoy.
Classic Sprints
Posted: Saturday, January 10th, 2009The classic sprint was finally able to happen on Thursday. Temperatures were around -2 degrees Fahrenheit all day. The wind picked up considerably, and it felt colder in the stadium than any other day of the week. The CXC men did well in the qualifier, but got knocked out of the heats early. Garrott Kuzzy qualified in 2nd place and Bryan Cook was 25th. In addition, Bryan’s brother, Chris, won the qualifier by an amazing 6 seconds.
The CXC women’s team finished in a pack again. I was 31st, Johanna Winters was 32nd, and Caitlin Compton was 33rd. Unfortunately, only 30 people make the heats so we need to make our pack a tiny bit faster. Full Results can be found HERE.
I went out on the course to take pictures during the heats, but my camera was too cold to work. If any of the shots I got off do turn out I will post them tomorrow.
After the race, the World Cup team for the upcoming races in Canada was announced. Congratulations to everyone who made it, good luck, and go USA.

More Cold
Posted: Thursday, January 8th, 2009Today may have been the coldest day of them all. The sprint race was cancelled again and moved to tomorrow. That will be our last chance to race because we fly home on Friday. The forecast is for a high of 0 degrees Fahrenheit, which is 4 degrees above the legal racing limit. Hopefully we will get to start.
They picked the Scandinavian Cup, World Junior, and U23 Teams today. Congratulations to those who made it and keep working hard to everyone who did not. There will be other opportunities.
