On Monday afternoon, the CXC team got a chance to shoot a biathlon gun at the old Olympic Biathlon venue here in Lake Placid. Since the 1980 Olympics, the OTC has built a new range with a roller skiing loop attached so we had the old one all to ourselves. NMU alumni and CXC Elite teammate, Caitlin Compton (former USA Biathlon team member) came with us to teach shooting technique, and Bill Bowler (current USA Biathlon team member and NMU alumni) let us borrow his gun and helped show us how it is done. Everyone managed to shoot at least one target before the day was over, but the sun would have set before we completed all of our penalty laps. I can’t imagine trying to hold the gun still during a race. Thank you Caitlin and Bill for giving us the opportunity to shoot in a world-class venue.
Unfortunately, my other biathlon friend, Jenny Wygant (NMU Alumni and current USA Biathlon team member), left town on Sunday and didn’t get to come out and show us her skills. I did get to spend some time catching up with her last week, which was wonderful.
Here are some pics:
